I can construct an argument based on evidence to support the Big Bang theory. This includes but is not limited to the cosmological principle, cosmic microwave background radiation, and space-time expansion.

Warm-Up

In your groups, discuss what you know about the Big Bang Theory. What were the initial conditions? What evidence supports this?

Mini-Lesson

1. As a group watch the following video to review the Big Bang. If you need to, watch it twice. 

2. Again, in groups, please explore the 5 origin stories listed below. Decide which 2 you would like to read/explore.

a. Read and annotate each Myth. You are looking for similarities and differences relating to our current scientific understanding of the Big Bang. In essence, how do these myths compare to the scientific knowledge we have gained thus far. Blended learners: you can read from the pdf articles linked on the website. Please add your name to the list above to let me know which articles you chose. 

b. Remember to look up or define any words or terms you do not understand.

c. You are allowed to further research the myths if you need more information. 

4. Read the last origin story called Modern Scientific. Links to an external site.

a. Read and annotate this article from a cultural perspective. What similarities does it share with the 2 creation myths you read?

Work Session

Create a visual aid to compare and contrast the similarities and differences between the 2 myths you chose and the modern science myth. (handout)
